Top 5 Reasons To Use Pinterest for Your Creative Business
Share

If you run a creative business, Pinterest is a necessary platform for you to get on. It is a search engine for users to ‘pin’ images to create visual boards based on their interests. Here are some reasons why it’s important for a creative to have a presence on Pinterest.
1. Pinterest is a search engine dedicated to images
Pinterest is one of the largest website traffic drivers in the world. It can increase links back to your website. Unlike regular social media where content can be quickly forgotten, content on Pinterest has a very long shelf life because it is SEO-based. Also, it isn’t as finicky or temperamental as the Instagram algorithm. Of course, your Pins also have to be high quality with great aesthetics, preferably also with a high repin count to ensure it retains its momentum.
2. Drive traffic to your website and blog
Because every Pin includes a link, it is easy for users to go to the source of the image i.e. your website or your webstore. People use Pinterest when they are searching for something specific, unlike on social media apps where many just randomly scroll for fun. So if they end up on your website through Pinterest, there is a much higher chance they are genuinely interested in your work.
3. Pins do not disappear.
Assuming you have done your SEO correctly, Pins will always remain. That means that your Pins from years ago are still discoverable, especially for those who have a history of searching content like yours. For example, let’s say someone used Pinterest extensively to find dog stickers years ago, then didn’t touch their Pinterest ever since. During that time, they pinned some of your images. If they were to go back to Pinterest today and start searching for stickers again, and you’re still in the sticker business, your work would pop up because Pinterest still remembers their search preferences. This is good for retaining customers over the long term because people often buy things but forget where or which business they got them from. For example, I had some seasonal painting tutorials that I pinned a few years ago that is still getting me traffic every Christmas. Every time that happens, it gives my monthly viewership a boost.
4. Build brand awareness
For my business, if you don’t fall in love with the product when you look at it, the visual isn’t good enough. If the pin doesn’t compel you to click on it, the visual isn’t good enough. No amount of clever description writing will ever win a customer over. A good pin is a combination of good visuals - image, colours, font type and catchy SEO-packed title. A collection of Pins for your business allows you to build a visual of your brand. If you’re great with visuals but not so great with words, this gives you an advantage because you no longer need to crack your head for something witty, because Pinterest is all about SEO keywords. Assemble your Pins and let them speak for you.
5. Your Pins can show up on Google
You might have noticed over time that when you search for something on Google, sometimes the result comes from Pinterest. A good SEO strategy means that you might reap potential benefits from Google as well as Pinterest.
